Have Your Say: Guidance for the ‘Growing Up Online’ Consultation
The UK Government has launched a national consultation on potential measures to limit the influence of social media platforms on the lives of young people, and is inviting parents, teachers, young people and concerned citizens to have their voices heard.
The consultation closes on 26 May. We need your help to show the Government that children cannot afford delay – they must act now.
There are three different surveys: one for parents and carers, one for children and young people and one for anyone – which should be used by teachers, civil society, industry and concerned members of the public.
We’ve put together some tips on how to respond to the consultation so you can add your voice and demand action to protect children on social media.
Why Respond?
Nearly two-thirds of parents believe 13 is too young for social media access, and more than 70% support banning access for under-16s.
70% of teachers frequently see pupils’ behaviour, attitudes or language shaped by extreme or harmful online content.
89% of teachers believe social media platforms play a major role in exposing children to such material
